Feasibility Study of a Pilot Program for Deployment of Nano-based Fuel Saving Devices in Kuwait

Agility Public Warehousing Company and Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences

The project is an initial feasibility study to map the best way forward to determine benefits and merits of a fuel saving device program in Kuwait. Next stage will be to deploy the product with the help of the company’s technology provider.

1.  A Brief Description About the Company

Agility is a new logistics leader, headquartered in Kuwait and meeting the challenges of the global trade. The company provides logistic services according to customer special needs.

2.    What was the problem you were trying to solve?

Funding assistance was sought for a feasibility study to support an initiative to deploy nano-based fuel saving devices here in Kuwait. KFAS agreement to fund also provided an indication of the scientific community’s interest in such a product/project.

3.  How did KFAS help you with your project?

KFAS provided invaluable support that went beyond partial funding. The team suggested how to best approach the project, provided guidance on submission requirements and possible pathways for joint collaboration, and offered researchers and analysts to work with Agility should the project proceed to the analytical phase. The Innovation and Enterprise Directorate at KFAS in particular, was exceptionally helpful.

4.  What was the science, technology, and innovation solution?

Agility required environmental solutions and the testing of new, advanced technology material. KFAS has helped the company to address these requirements.

5.  To what extent did KFAS add additional value to your project?

KFAS support was a big plus for the technology provider. The scientific community’s backing, as represented by KFAS, especially for a new product and market can be a powerful indicator of future market acceptance.

6.  Working with the research institute

Agility worked with analysts and researchers from KFAS Knowledge Providers. KFAS was very generous with its time and assistance before and during the submission process. Also, KFAS was always available to brainstorm as well as to answer questions regarding the correct application procedure. Their support does not end there however as KFAS also provides guidance for future program modules and ideas for project enhancements (like local manufacturing/assembly).

7.  Project Impact

The feasibility study is a key component in Agility’s preliminary evaluation process. KFAS lending support is an indicator that the company’s thinking, in the initial stages, is complete. This project and others like it provide an initial litmus test for disruptive technologies in which the company is looking to invest, while helping mitigate financial and technological risk associated with new products and ventures.

8.  As a result of this project, are you likely to invest further in research & development?

Agility is always looking to invest in high potential disruptive Clean Tech. As above, KFAS support provides a good sense check prior to Agility’s internal deep dive due diligence. This
project will help determine if the company moves forward with this specific technology.

9.  How did you find out about KFAS and the co-funding program?

Agility was made aware of co-funding through the company’s excellent working relationship with KFAS.

10.  Would you recommend KFAS programs to other companies?

Absolutely. Professional and helpful staff that are easy to work with. Excellent database of potential partners. Great resource for support. Easy to follow guidelines. Prompt payments. Furthermore, I would suggest KFAS offer a seminar to local companies on availability of funding and how they might participate in these valuable programs.

11.  Would you like to re-apply to a KFAS program?

Yes.
